Web Site Templates

Web Templates

Here is a wide selection of web site templates that you can use to build your own web site, or to help one of your community members or businesses build their web site.

These templates have been downloaded from a variety of sources, so they will not all work the same way. The first thing you will need to do with any template is to download the zip file and unzip it (with WinZip or similar program) into a folder on your computer. From there, the template will likely fall into one of these 3 categories:

Template Type A

If you see multiple files ending in .html, this means that the sub-pages have been made for you. Modify each of them individually.

Template Type B

If you only see an index.html file (sometimes named 'main page' or 'template' or something like that), you will need to modify it (with a web page development program) and "Save As..." different pages to suit your needs. You will then need to link those pages together. This may also involve modifying graphics, which will require a graphics editor, such as PhotoShop. To create sub-pages, you will need to use the index file as a template for the rest of your web site.

Template Type C

If there is a file ending in .dwt, you have a Dreamweaver template. Use Dreamweaver to create new files from that template.

Uploading

Once you have made all the necessary pages and links, you will need to upload the web site using an FTP program, which you can learn about here and download here.

Please note: Some of these templates contain links to the author/creator's home page. Do not remove this link, as it is the reason that the templates are available for free.
