What is SK CAP YI?
The Saskatchewan Community Access Program Youth Initiative (SK
CAP YI) is part of Industry
Canada's Community Access Program Youth Initiative administered by the Provincial
Contractor, Carlton Trail Regional
College, in Humboldt, Saskatchewan. The Community
Access Program is a Government of Canada initiative, administered by Industry
Canada, that aims to provide Canadians with affordable
public access to the Internet and the skills they need to use
it effectively. With the combined efforts of the federal, provincial
and territorial governments, community groups, social agencies, libraries, schools,
volunteer groups and the business community, CAP helps Canadians, wherever they
live, take advantage of emerging opportunities in the new global knowledge-based
economy. Under CAP, public locations like schools, libraries and community centres
act as on-ramps to the Information Highway, and provide
computer support and training.
With the Saskatchewan CAP Youth Initiative, CAP
Sites in Saskatchewan have the opportunity to host
youth interns who then gain valuable skills and work experience,
while at the same time providing a valuable service to their communities. The
objectives of the Initiative are to provide significant work
experience to Saskatchewan youth (students, recent graduates, underemployed
or unemployed) between the ages 15-30 and to facilitate the transition to the
labour market/workplace.
