Federal Sources of Funding

The following is a list of Federal Programs that target Youth Employment. You can follow up on these in order to arrange sustainability for your CAP Center.

Human Resources & Skills Development Canada (HRSDC)

Deadline for applications: Contact their local Human Resources Centre of Canada.

This program helps young people who need work experience to make a successful transition into the workforce.


2. Youth Service Canada URL: http://youth.hrdc-drhc.gc.ca/programs/ysc.shtml
Deadline for applications: Contact their local Human Resources Centre of Canada.

The primary focus of this program is to provide funding to organizations that create community service projects for youth (age 15 to 30) who face greater barriers entering the labour market.

Deadline for applications: Application forms are available at your local Human Resources Centre of Canada

HRDC provides wage subsidies to employers to create career-related summer jobs for students. Proposals are assessed on how well the jobs prepare students for the labour market.

The New Practices in Learning Technologies works with partners to expand innovative learning opportunities through technologies and provides support for projects that contribute to a better understanding of learning technologies and how to use and adapt them for adult learners within the educational sector.

A partnership between the Government of Canada and local business associations, Partners in Promoting Summer Employment provides business associations with funding to hire students and to promote the hiring of students within their communities without using government wage subsidies.

Young Canada Works in Both Official Languages benefits from the language and academic skills of young Canadians.

Aboriginal youth are able to gain hands-on experience and job-readiness skills, provide a valuable service to your community, take pride in their Aboriginal heritage which are key element of Canada's cultural heritage.

The SchoolNet Youth Employment Initiative provides funding for participating organizations to provide employment opportunities for unemployed and underemployed young people aged 15 to 30. The initiative supports the implementation of technology in the learning process, helps schools and public libraries use and integrate information and communications technology (ICT) effectively, and helps to ensure that learners have an opportunity to develop ICT skills.

Aboriginal Business Canada (ABC) provides business services and support to Canadian Aboriginal peoples. The web site describes how ABC works with you, what they look for and how they can help your business succeed through innovation.

Francommunautés virtuelles is an Industry Canada program designed to help Canada's Francophone and Acadian communities take full advantage of information and communications technologies. Its objectives are to increase content, applications and services in French on the Internet and to promote networking among Francophone and Acadian communities throughout Canada.

This program supports opportunities for career-related work experience and training to in-school First Nations and lnuit youth living on reserve or in recognized communities during the summer months.

This program enables Aboriginal lending institutions to offer on-reserve First Nations and recognized Inuit community youth (age 15 to 30): proactive business opportunity advice and counseling; mentoring; and advisory support; and seed capital to explore or develop a business opportunity.

The First Nations and lnuit Science and Technology Camp Program promotes science and technology as career choices by supporting science camps which will provide First Nations and lnuit youth living on reserve or in recognized communities with firsthand experience in various science and technology disciplines.
