Youth Internship Funding
Definition of a single Youth Intern Position
- 560 hours at $10.00/hr
- Must be filled by one Youth (no splitting the job between two or more youths)
- Available only once per year to any one Youth Intern (no multiple Internships for the same Youth in the same year)
- Overtime work and sick leave benefits may not be authorized using these funds
- All Youth Interns will be subject to the Reporting and Payroll Policy.

General Approval Criteria
Youth Eligibility
Eligible Youth must:
- be between the ages of 15 and 30
- either :
- be a student intending to return to school in the upcoming school year , or
- have completed at least one post-secondary class (University, College , Technical School, etc.)
- be legally entitled to work in Canada
- be entitled to work according to provincial legislations
- not receive Employment Insurance benefits
- have a valid bank account, Social Insurance Number (SIN), and valid e-mail address (for work purposes - not an existing personal e-mail address) before commencing employment
- be subject to final approval by Carlton Trail Regional College
Hiring Process
- CAP Centres are encouraged to advertise the positions through local means and consult employment-related web sites for potential candidates.
- Please be reminded that Community Access centres are equal opportunity employers and are not allowed give preference to person(s) who are family members or relatives of employees of the CAP Centre. It is recommended that the hiring committee consist of members other than family members of applicants. Those members of the hiring committee with a family member or relative applying for the Youth position must remove themselves from the hiring committee.
- A youth who has previously held the position may only be considered if and when a CAP Centre can demonstrate they did not have any other eligible applicants.
Inability to Hire or Loss of Intern
- If the CAP Centre cannot find a candidate suitable to hire, they should notify the Provincial Coordinator as soon as possible. The Internship contract will be cancelled and the offer extended to a different CAP site, at our discretion.
- If an Intern cannot complete their Internship (their employment is terminated) for any reason, please notify the Provincial Coordinator as soon as possible. If the remaining hours are sufficient to provide a partial Internship for a new candidate, the CAP Centre may re-hire. If the hours are not sufficient, they will be automatically returned to the Delivery Agent and we will grant the hours to a different CAP Intern, at our discretion.

Becoming a Youth Intern

If you are interested in becoming a Youth Intern, contact your nearest CAP center (phone 1-800-575-9200 to find the nearest CAP Centre) and ask them if they are hiring. Most CAP centers do their hiring in the Summer or Fall so that the Internships will be completed on or before March 20.
