Also known as maintenance mechanics, millwrights, or machine repairmen, industrial mechanics are employed in commercial or industrial operations that use machinery. These include wood, cereal, meat processing and power generating plants, hard rock and potash mines, mills, and refineries. This course gives you a working knowledge of machinery common to most industries, and an introduction to preventive maintenance procedures. Trade time and academic credit may be available to graduates who find employment in the trade and register as apprentices. |

This course will assist students preparing to write the Department of Municipal Government Protection Services Boiler and Pressure Vessel Unit Fireman's Certificate. This program is appropriate for persons working as building operators in manufacturing processes dealing with steam or hot water boilers. Topics include lower pressure heat boilers, fuel and firing equipment, automatic controls, jumps, piping fittings, valves, steam and hot water heating, ventilation, basic electricity, and the Boiler & Pressure Vessel Act. |

5th Class Level:
Improve skills and knowledge of facilities using steam or hot water boilers, refrigeration equipment, pumps and heating systems. Water treatment and quality control in boilers and cooling systems are also covered. Fifth Class is the certification level for low pressure boiler operation, usually related to residential apartment and commercial buildings, and operators are limited to boiler operations of 103 kPA maximum steam pressure. Successful students will be well-prepared to challenge the Provincial 5th Class Exam. |
