OFFICE EDUCATION

ACCT 131   -   Accounting I
You will learn how to perform basic accounting functions as you journalize and post transactions, prepare adjusting and closing entries, and prepare unaudited financial statements. You will also perform banking and petty cash functions.

ACCT 132   -   Accounting II
You will prepare payroll records, perform accounting functions for a merchandising business, and record transactions in special journals and subsidiary ledgers.
Pre-requisites:    ACCT 131 Minimum Grade: 50

ACCT 135   -   Automated Accounting
You will learn how to use journals (general, purchase, payments, sales, cash receipts and payroll) and ledgers (general, accounts receivable and accounts payable). You will also account for inventory and reconcile a bank statement.
Pre-requisites:    ACCT 131 Minimum Grade: 50

BCOM 130   -   Spelling and Proofreading
The course focuses on how to use reference tools, apply spelling rules, demonstrate vocabulary skills and apply proofreading skills.

BCOM 131   -   Grammar
You will learn to apply grammatical rules and principles. This includes identifying sentences and sentence parts, and the correct use of plurals, possessives, pronouns, verb tense, subject/predicate agreement, adjectives, adverbs, prepositions and conjunctions.
Pre-requisites:    BCOM 130

BCOM 132   -   Punctuation
Your studies will focus on the rules for punctuation and the correct use of capitalization, abbreviations and numbers.
Pre-requisites:    BCOM 131 Minimum Grade: 50

BCOM 133   -   Oral Communications
You will develop effective verbal and nonverbal communication skills. You will deliver oral presentations, apply listening and feedback skills, and learn problem-solving techniques and ways to resolve conflict.

BCOM 134   -   Business Communications
You will study business writing principles. You will compose letters and memoranda using the direct and indirect bad news and persuasive approaches to writing.
Pre-requisites:    ( BCOM 132 Minimum Grade: 50 or BCOM 132 )

COAP 130   -   Computer Fundamentals
The course provides an introduction to fundamental computer concepts. You will learn how to describe computer concepts, hardware and software, perform basic Windows functions, use the Internet, communicate electronically and begin an employment portfolio.

COAP 131   -   Word Processing I
Using word processing features, you will develop the fundamental concepts of creating, editing and enhancing basic documents. You will enhance your keyboard control of the letter, symbol and number keys while focusing on correct keyboarding techniques. Passing the course includes your attaining a minimum keyboarding speed of 25 words per minute.
Pre-requisites:    COAP 130

COAP 132   -   Word Processing II
You will learn how to format business correspondence (memoranda and letters) and basic tables. You will also learn how to use multiple windows and the find and replace features. Passing the course includes your attaining a minimum keyboarding speed of 30 words per minute.
Pre-requisites:    COAP 131

COAP 133   -   Word Processing III
You will learn how to format business reports, use varied column styles and process administrative documents (including outlines, agendas, minutes, resumes and itineraries). Rapid and accurate touch typing will be emphasized. Passing the course includes your attaining a minimum keyboarding speed of 35 words per minute.
Pre-requisites:    COAP 132 Minimum Grade: 50

COAP 134   -   Word Processing IV
You must master a minimum of 45 words per minute on 5-minute timings. You will also learn how to use automatic features to process longer business reports and correspondence, create labels and merge letters.
Pre-requisites:    COAP 133

COAP 138   -   Computer Suite Applications I
Using computer suite applications, you will create spreadsheets and learn how to use database and presentation software. Email and calendaring functions will be enhanced. You will also examine the new e-commerce technology and applications at an introductory level and complete an integrated project.
Pre-requisites:    COAP 130 Minimum Grade: 50 and COAP 132 Minimum Grade: 50

COAP 139    -   Word Processing V
You will apply some of the previously learned word processing and formatting concepts to a second word processing package.
Pre-requisites:    COAP 138

EMPS 130    -   Personal Management Skills
To function effectively within a professional office, you must understand the dynamics of the workplace. You will have the opportunity to demonstrate components of professionalism; practice human relations skills; recognize employee rights, responsibilities and diversity; create a portfolio of employability skills; and explore lifelong learning.

EMPS 131    -   Employment Preparation
The course focuses on helping you prepare for the job search process. You will learn how to perform a personal analysis and a job market analysis. You will also develop a resume and cover letters, complete application forms, prepare for and participate in an interview, and compose follow-up correspondence related to the interview process.

MATH 133   -   Business Calculations
The course provides a review of basic mathematical calculations. This includes calculating percentages, simple interest, discounts, markups and markdowns. As part of the course, you must attain a minimum business calculator operating speed of 200 strokes per minute on a one-minute timing.

OPRO 131    -   Office Procedures I
You will discuss the changing work environment. You will learn how to recognize occupational health and safety issues, use time management principles, use electronic and print based information resources, and manage business forms.
Pre-requisites:    COAP 131

OPRO 132    -   Office Procedures II
The essential course components include identifying current telephone technology and demonstrating telephone techniques. You will practice customer service and reception skills, process incoming and outgoing mail, and learn how to use reprographic methods.
Pre-requisites:    COAP 130 Minimum Grade: 50

OPRO 133   -   Records Management
You will learn how to identify records management equipment, supplies and procedures. You will also use manual filing systems (alphabetic, numeric, geographic and subject) and electronic file management.
Pre-requisites:    COAP 130 Minimum Grade: 50

OPRO 134   -   Business Meetings
Your studies will focus on identifying the procedures, roles and responsibilities for organizing business meetings. You will also learn how to prepare agendas for meetings and record minutes during meetings.
